History, Geography, Climate
Simlipal is a Tiger Reserve in the Mayurbhanj District in the State of Odisha. This park is the home to Bengal Tiger, Asian Elephant, Gaur, Chausingha and many other flora and fauna. This area is the part of UNSECO world network of Biosphere Reserve since 2009. Simlipal was formally selected as a tiger reserve in 1956 and under Project Tiger in May 1973. The government of Odisha declared Simlipal as a wildlife sanctuary in 1979 with an area of approx. 2750 Square Kilometre. The wild forest has two prominent waterfalls Joranda (594 ft) and Barheipani (712 ft). Summers are hot with temperature around 40 – 45 degrees Celsius whereas the winter months can be low as 10-15 degree Celsius. The rainfall ranges from moderate to heavy.
Wildlife – Flora & Fauna
This park is the house for around 93 species of Orchids, 300 species of Medicinal Plant, and 52 species of endangered Flora whereas a total of 42 species of Mammals, 242 species of Birds, and 30 species of reptile. The major mammal found are Bengal Tiger, Asian Elephant, Barking deer, Gaur etc.

Barehipani waterfall is the highest waterfall in Odisha located within the contour of Simlipal Tiger Reserve. The rolling waterfall drops from a height of (1309 ft.) presents a majestic view with reverberating sound in the gorge from where the Budhabalanga river runs to the plain land. The waterfall Barehipani is a major tourist attraction in Simlipal attracts lakhs of visitors every year across the globe. A visit to Simlipal is incomplete without having a glimpse of the majestic waterfall.
The Joranda waterfall is known for its beauty & one of the famous waterfalls in India locate inside the Simlipal Tiger Reserve. It’s a straight & single drop waterfall occupies an important destination in Odisha tourism map. It has a total height of (594 ft) touches the ground on a gorge perpendicularly. Thousands of tourists & nature lovers visit this waterfall to enjoy the tranquil nature & relieve themselves of the hectic city life.
The river Bhandan when drops create this beautiful waterfall called Uski. It is the lone cascade of Simlipal which you can see from a nearby distance and may even clean up moreover.
